DECATUR, Ala. – East Mississippi Community College freshman golfer Lucy Lunceford posted her fourth top-10 individual finish of the 2024-25 women’s golf season by tying for 10th-place honors during Tuesday’s weather-shortened Calhoun Women’s Spring Classic played at Burningtree Country Club.
Due to Monday’s continued wet grounds following heavy overnight rain, the Calhoun Community College-hosted tournament was condensed into one 18-hole round played on Tuesday.
Lunceford, who tied with three other golfers with a 12-over-par 84 this week, has finished no lower than 21st place through all nine regular-season tournaments, including seven top-15 outings. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama, product from Northside High School began her collegiate career by claiming low medalist honors at the season-opening EMCC Invitational played at Tunica National. Currently ranked 25th nationally among NJCAA Division II women’s golfers, Lunceford then added a runner-up individual finish at the Jim Redgate Invitational played at Briarwood two tournaments later.
Fellow EMCC freshman golfers Lannee Bray and Kaylee Dufrene, who also competed as individual participants, placed 30th (97) and 32nd (101), respectively, among the 49 women’s golfers who competed this week in Decatur, Alabama.
Shelton State Community College earned a decisive 27-shot victory (309-336) over the University of Mobile to pace the 10-team tournament field that consisted of fellow MACCC foes Northwest Mississippi and Pearl River along with seven Alabama-based schools.
East Mississippi’s trio of women’s golfers will next compete, April 30-May 1, at the NJCAA Division II South District Championship to be played at Cider Ridge Golf Club in Oxford, Alabama.
