Team TNT Promotions is bringing its first Saturday Night Fights event of 2017 to Meridian’s Frank Cochran Center. Fights will start at 7 p.m. Friday, but the center’s door will open at 6 p.m.
Team TNT Promotion’s is head by husband-and-wife duo Tim and Yolanda Edmonds.
“I’ve been promoting since 1997,” Yolanda Edmonds said. “What’s prompting it now is we’re trying to get the guys a local, hometown platform to showcase their talents – the sweet science. I try to have three or four a year.”
Yolanda Adams carries 25 years of experience as a judge, coach and trainer. Tim Edmonds began his boxing career at age 14 and is a Golden Gloves champion. His professional career lasted six years.
Team TNT Promotions brought three fights to the area last year, and the Edmonds family plans the do the same again this year.
The event’s main card pits Tyi “Mr. Untouchable” Edmonds (7 wins, 3 losses) against Jeremy Hall. Edmonds hails from Meridian and has attracted a number of area boxing fans.
“I.B.E.W., which is his local union, is 917, and they’re sponsoring the main event,” Yolanda Edmonds said. “They’re in total support of him because he’s a great fighter and he showcases true skills when it comes to boxing. He was 8 years old when he first started competing. He’s a crowd pleaser.”
The undercard features Sena Agbeko vs. Christian Buffy-Holmes; Keshawn Boykins vs. Adam Young; Ebony Jones vs. Lucretia Meacham; Javonn Barnes vs. Charles Phillip Hammac; Whitney Pierre Webster vs. John Alfred Willoughby; and Jasmine Artega vs. Mistery Neal.
“Under the main card, we have six bouts,” Yolanda Edmonds said. “We have two female bouts, and that’s going to be exciting. We have an 114-pound female coming in from the coast – her name is Jasmine Artiga. We have Ebony Jones. Roy Jones Sr. is coming over, and he’s bringing two fighters – one of them is Ebony Jones.
While Friday’s event will display its fighters’ skills, Yolanda Edmonds said fans also have added incentive to attend.
“Last year, we gave away tickets to the Alabama game, and this year we have a cash prize we’ll be giving away,” she said. “So one of the lucky ticket holders will win. All they have to do is purchase a ticket.”
