The ninth Mississippi Bowl will be played at A.L. May Memorial Stadium on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College campus in Perkinston. The third-ranked EMCC Lions (10-1) will take on No. 13 Kilgore College (6-4) out of Texas. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. Tickets are available via MississippiBowl.com.

Mackey led East Mississippi to its 2009 Mississippi Bowl appearance when the Lions defeated No. 6 Arizona Western 27-24. He completed 27-of-34 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns, while also running for a team-high 49 yards on 10 carries.

He was the recipient of the Mississippi Bowl Committee’s MVP award as the state champions’ top player for the 2009 season.

Mackey earned NJCAA All-American honors during both seasons in Scooba, making the honorable mention list as a freshman before earning the first-team nod as a sophomore. He led the country with 3,122 yards passing and had 32 touchdown passes as a sophomore, while throwing for 2,818 yards and 24 touchdowns as a freshman. For his EMCC career, Mackey totaled 5,940 yards and 56 touchdowns on 425-of-654 (.650) passing in addition to his 1,065 career rushing yards and nine scores.

Mackey was a Parade All-American and first-team, all-state selection at Bastrop High School in leading the Rams to three straight Class 4A Louisiana state championships.

After quarterbacking head coach Buddy Stephens’ EMCC Lions to a two-year composite mark of 19-3, Mackey went to Ole Miss and was named the team’s Most Valuable Senior by the Jackson Touchdown Club. He played running back, wide receiver and quarterback for the Rebels in 2012, running for 325 yards and catching passes for 346 yards.

As a junior at Ole Miss, he started six games at quarterback, passing for 1,112 yards and seven touchdowns. He also ran for 180 yards and another score.

Mackey has been the quarterbacks coach at his high school alma mater in Bastrop since 2014.

Mackey is the third inductee for the Mississippi Bowl Hall of Fame, joining former Mississippi Gulf Coast standouts Greg Jenkins (2015) and Malcolm Tatum (2014).
