Roundup – Northeast sweeps county rival West

The Northeast Lauderdale girls basketball team jumped on visiting West Lauderdale early Thursday night and rolled past its county rival 60-32.
The Trojans led 15-6 after the first quarter and 37-15 at halftime behind 16 points from Kaneisha Hubbard. Brenisha Jackson added 14 and Norianna Haynes scored 10.
West got 11 points from Kandice Sims.
Northeast and West are both off until the Choctaw Central Tournament, which begins Dec. 28.

The Trojans pulled away from the visiting Knights with a big second half Thursday night.
Northeast, which improved to 6-5, led 26-18 at the half before scoring 21 in the third quarter to seize a 47-29 advantage.
Johnny Jones, Quaindarious Landrum and Rodrigus Gaddis each scored eight points to pace Northeast.
The Knights were led by Chris Roney’s 11.

The Panthers races out to a 22-6 lead following the first quarter and never looked back in Region 5-4A play.
Quitman (6-3, 1-1) led 41-11 at halftime and 59-15 through three quartes.
Relanda McFarland scored 17 points to pace the Panthers, who also received 10 points from Dajah McCarty.
Quitman faces West Jones in the Sumrall Tournament on Dec. 28.

The Panthers couldn’t quite dig themselves out of 14-point hole through three quarters.
Trailing the host Golden Tornadoes 45-31 following a six-point third-quarter effort, Quitman poured in 27 points in the final period but the rally fell short.
Phillip Powe led Quitman (5-4) with 21 points. Greg Moore added 16 and Marcus Heidelberg chipped in 11.
Laurel was led by Desmond Bridges’ game-high 34.
Quitman returns to action Dec. 28 at the Sumrall Tournament.

Prent. Christian girls 24
Heidelberg got its 12th win of the year in a close four-point victory against Prentiss Christian on Thursday night at home.
Heidelberg (12-6, 7-2) was led by Ashley Reeves’ 10-point effort, while Cynthia Hilton scored seven and pulled down 12 rebounds. Kirstin Prunera added 11 steals in the win.

Heidelberg dropped its fifth game of the season as visiting Prentiss came away with a solid 15-point win Thursday night.
Heidelberg was led by Austin McCardle with 14 points, while Tyler Hodge and Skyler Prunera each dropped in nine.

Northeast Lauderdale improved to 3-3-3 on the season and 1-1 in the district as it scored all six of its goals in the first half Thursday night.
Matt Kiefer and Nick Divelbliss each scored two goals, while James Cranmore and Johnny Huntley each scored a goal in the contest. Austin Bize added two assists in the win.
Quitman scored its lone goal in the second half.
