MPD seeks suspect in hit-and-run

Meridian Police Department is looking for a man investigators believe is connected to a hit-and-run that left one person dead.

John Culpepper, 79, was struck by a vehicle off of King Road on Tuesday and later died of his injuries.

In a news release, MPD said it is looking for William Joe Garrett, who is believed to be connected to the incident.

Acting Capt. Dareall Thompson on Monday said police have recovered the vehicle

believed to be used in the hit-and-run incident and are having it processed as investigators continued to look for Garrett.

“Anyone who is hiding him will face charges also,” he said.
