MCC’s Dunnam Shirley, Brian Rivers named to All-Mississippi Academic Team

Two Meridian Community College students, Dunnam Shirley and Brian Rivers, were among the 63 Mississippi community and junior college students named to the All-Mississippi Academic Team.
Shirley was selected for the first team; Rivers was named to the second team.

The All-Mississippi Academic Team recognizes the scholarly achievements and leadership accomplishments of community and junior college students across the state. It is coordinated by Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for community and junior college students, the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges and the Mississippi Community College Board.
Shirley received a $1,000 scholarship. He plans to transfer to Mississippi State University to study biology and pursue a career in secondary education. Rivers will transfer to Mississippi College to study biology. His career goal is to become a general surgeon. Both students are from Meridian.
The All-Mississippi Academic Team members received medallions, certificates and printed resolutions from the Mississippi Senate and House of Representatives at a luncheon held in their honor.
Each college is eligible to nominate two students per campus for the Academic Team Competition.
