Friday fire contained to one room in Toomsuba

An accidental fire on Lick Skillet Road, off of Lauderdale-Toomsuba Road, damaged one room of a house Friday evening.

“From my understanding, they were in the process of moving and put something in front of a wall-mounted heater that they thought was off,” Allan Dover, the Lauderdale County Fire Coordinator, said. 

Dover said wall-mounted heaters have their own thermostat that controls it, rather than a physical switch. 

Volunteer firefighters with Russell, Toomsuba and Lauderdale limited the fire to one room of the home, Dover said.
