Councilwoman calls domestic violence charge retaliation

Meridian City Councilwoman Ty Bell Lindsey says a domestic violence charge against her is retaliation from a previous incident that put her husband in jail.

Tony Lindsey was arrested on Aug. 17 and charged with domestic violence, according to arrest records from Meridian Police Department. Ty Bell said she and her husband have had no contact since.

Claims made on social media that Meridian Municipal Court Judge Kenneth Dustin Markham showed favoritism to Ty Bell after she was charged are also not true, she said, as Markham, a longtime acquaintance of both herself and her husband, recused himself on Aug. 19 and transferred the case to Lauderdale County Justice Court.

Ty Bell said the charge against her, which was filed Oct. 11, was an attempt to delay an Oct. 15 court date and retaliation for seeking a divorce following the August incident.
