Child injured in Tuesday shooting

Meridian Police Department is investigating after a shooting Tuesday left two people injured including a young child.

In a news release, Police Chief Deborah Naylor Young said officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 200 block of 45th Avenue around 3:30 p.m. where they learned two victims had been taken to a local hospital in a private vehicle. One of the victims, a small child, has been airlifted to Jackson, she said.

It was later determined that the second victim had been injured by glass fragments during the shooting and has been released from the hospital.

At approximately 5 p.m., Young said police had a suspect in custody, who was being questioned at the police department.
