The Salvation Army in Meridian will host a limited space makeup for its annual Angel Tree Campaign Thursday, Oct. 24, to give residents an additional opportunity to register for the program.
The Angel Tree Campaign provides Christmas gifts and clothing to hundreds of needy children throughout the East Mississippi region each year, Lt. Roy Fisher, The Salvation Army Officer in Meridian, said in a news release announcing the makeup date.
“Christmas demands and expectations can overwhelm families experiencing financial and housing stress and uncertainty,” Fisher said. “We are committed to serving these families at Christmas, helping children experience the magic of Christmas, and reducing the anxiety for parents trying to provide food and presents during the holiday season.”
The makeup day, which will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be for residents of Lauderdale and Kemper counties only. This year, The Salvation Army is only accepting angels age 12 and under, and applications are by appointment only.
The Salvation Army will begin taking appointments beginning Monday, Oct. 14, through Friday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parents or guardians will need to call 601-483-6156 during that time to set an appointment for Oct. 24.
A limited number of appointments are available, and they will be set on a first-come, first-served basis, the nonprofit said in the release.
When coming to their appointment, parents will need to bring a valid photo ID for all adults in the household, social security cards for everyone in the household, birth certificates for all children under 12, proof of income including federal assistance, social security, workman’s compensation and child support, a lease or mortgage statement, a current utility bill and a piece of paper listing their child’s name, age, sex, height, weight, shoe size, clothing size, wishes and needs. Those who are unemployed will also need to bring proof of how they pay their bills.
“Thank you for your continued support of the work of The Salvation Army Meridian, proudly serving Lauderdale, Kemper, Neshoba and Newton counties,” said Lt. Fisher. “With the public’s generosity, The Salvation Army will continue to provide help and hope to individuals and families in need.”
