Applications available for Miller Memorial Scholarship

Applications for the Rev. Charles J. Miller Memorial Scholarship are currently being accepted.

Two $300 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors from Lauderdale County. The scholarships will be presented during the 12th Annual Reconciliation Celebration, July 7-13.

Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.75 or better. A high school transcript copy must be included with the application.

Applicants also are required to write an essay on “What is Great about Meridian and its Surrounding Communities.” The 250-500 word essay must be typed. Each essay will be scored by a committee of current and former English teachers for content, length, grammar and overall presentation.

The winner will be contacted by June 20 and must attend the Rev. Charles J. Miller Reconciliation Banquet on July 10.

Applications may be obtained from the Reconciliation Week Celebration Facebook page or by request via email (celebraterw@att.net). Applications with essays must be postmarked by Friday, May 31, 2019, and mailed to: Reconciliation Committee, 2001 29th Ave., Meridian, MS 39301.

The mission of the Reconciliation Committee is to unite the community in the spirit of reconciliation in honor of the lives lost in the Lockheed tragedy of 2003. The committee’s goal is to create positive changes by bringing together people of diverse backgrounds in various venues.
