NEIGHBORS: Anderson fund helps cancer patients with special needs

Anderson Regional Cancer Center’s Cancer Patient Benevolence Fund recently received a $6,650 donation. 

Leigh Ann Key led a fundraising campaign with more than 106 donors making a contribution.  The Cancer Patient Benevolence Fund was created to help local cancer patients with special needs not paid by insurance such as transportation assistance, prosthesis, medicine assistance, lymphedema supplies, and durable medical equipment.

L.O.V.E.’s Kitchen celebrates director

Meridian’s L.O.V.E.’s Kitchen recently celebrated the 10 year anniversary of Fannie Johnson as executive director of the non-profit organization – whose mission is to feed to hungry of Lauderdale County.

Johnson is a graduate of Meridian Community College and served in the U.S. Army. Her community work also includes the United Way Women’s Leadership Committee, the Weems Program Assertive Community Treatment Team. She is a member of the Meridian Community College Hall of Fame, and has been named Junior Auxiliary Humanitarian of the Year, and Meridian Star’s Citizen of the Year.

L.O.V.E’s Kitchen Board President Tyler Walton said Johnson is a true asset to the community. She has a giving heart and is a driving force for collaboration and synergy among the non-profit community in Meridian, and we are proud to have her represent our organization in the city, he said.

“Over the last ten years, Fannie has impacted the lives of many people through her good works, her caring spirit and her commitment to helping those in need,” said Derron Radcliff, executive director, United Way of East Mississippi. “The United Way of East Mississippi is strengthened by having a partnership with L.O.V.E’s Kitchen. We could not fulfill or mission of impacting the needs of our community without having relationships like we do with Fannie.” 

Beulah Copeland marks 100

Beulah Copeland, a resident of Aldersgate in Meridian, was surprised with a birthday party by family and friends to celebrate her 100th birthday on Aug. 18 at the Aldersgate Magnolia Room. A family dinner was held at Weidmann’s the night before the birthday party.
