Planet Fitness to open Meridian franchise

- Dave Bohrer / The Meridian StarPlanet Fitness announced Monday it plans to open a 16,500-square-foot gym in East Gate Plaza in Meridian. The plaza previously was the site of a Winn-Dixie Grocery, which closed in June, 2017.
Planet Fitness announced Monday it would open a 16,500-square-foot fitness facility before the end of the year at East Gate Plaza in Meridian.
The location at 2014 U.S. Highway 45 is in the plaza that contained a Winn-Dixie, which closed in June, 2017. This will be the first Planet Fitness franchise in Meridian, according to a news release.
East Gate Plaza currently includes Cell Phone Doctor and Auto Zone, among other stores. The Winn-Dixie space is currently vacant.
The Meridian facility will offer cardio machines and strength equipment, 30-minute express circuit, locker rooms with day lockers and showers, flat screen televisions, HydroMassage beds, massage chairs, tanning beds and a Total Body Enhancement booth, according to a news release.
“We’re excited to bring a Judgement Free experience to Meridian, where residents can break a sweat for just $10 a month” said Scott Lyons, franchise partner of United PF Partners, said in a statement.
United PF Partners, a leading Planet Fitness Franchisee Group, operates at 87 locations in 10 states.
According to the news release, Planet Fitness is proud of its “Judgement Free Zone” (sic) that has a “hassle-free, non-intimidating environment.”
Memberships start at $10 a month, according to the news release, and include benefits such as free small group fitness instruction by a certified trainer.
United PF Partners is the largest Planet Fitness franchise group, according to the news release, with 88 locations across Alabama, Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, and West Virginia.
