Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the death of two people in a rollover accident Friday afternoon on Interstate 59.
The crash killed a 70-year-old mother and her 35-year-old daughter, hospitalizing the father who drove the vehicle, according to Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler.
Cobler said investigators believed the father had a seizure while driving around 1 p.m. and drove off the left side of the highway.
“They think the mother reached over and grabbed the steering wheel,” Cobler said. “When she jerked it it caught and flipped over to the other side of the highway.”
The vehicle was traveling northbound on I-59, just before the I-20/I-59 split, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Andy West.
Six people have been killed in highway accidents in the Meridian area since Sunday.
On Sunday, Jason House, 44, and his son Bradley house, 15, of Meridian, were killed when they were struck by a car driven by Quinton Harvey, 33, of DeKalb, who also died in the crash, on Highway 39 in Kemper County.
On Monday, Evelyn Skinner, 66, of Chunky, died in a two-car accident on Highway 45 North In Lauderdale County.
