Memorial services for Dr. Wilhelm Hendrik van Deventer will be Wednesday, at 11 a.m., at St. Timothy United Methodist Church, 335 Asbury Drive, Mandeville, LA 70471. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Bagnell and Son Funeral Home of Covington, La. is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. van Deventer, 80, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at home. He was born in The Hague, Holland in 1930. After the war, he completed his medical school education before coming to the U.S. He pursued his education in Worcester, Mass. and later in Portland, Maine, ultimately becoming an Anesthesiologist. He spent the next 40 years in the service of his many patients in Brunswick, Maine and later in Meridian. He spent his retirement years in Mandeville, La. with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeanne; sons: Hank and Paul; daughters-in-law: Mary Lynn and Janie; and, four grandchildren: Will, Leland, Anna and Ashton.
The family would like to thank all of those who cared so greatly for him over the past three years. We give special thanks to Joyce Wiley whose loving care meant so much to us.
