- Alan Rigdon, left, Kristin Stevens and Greg Snowden head up the cast of “The Producers,” opening at Meridian Little Theatre Thursday
“The Producers,” the Tony Award winning smash Broadway hit, is coming to Meridian! The curtain will go up May 6 at the Meridian Little Theatre for a full week of performances.
Starring State Rep. Greg Snowden and Alan Rigdon, the show has a cast of 30, with a full orchestra. This hysterically funny Mel Brooks musical comedy won 12 Tony Awards (the most of any show in history), as well as the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. In 2005, it was made into a highly successful film version, starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, who created the original roles on Broadway.
“’The Producers’ delivers huge belly laughs and lots of fun” says the New York Times. “Outrageously funny!” — People Magazine.
The show begins with scheming producer, Max Bialystock (Greg Snowden), and his mousey accountant, Leo Bloom (Alan Rigdon), discovering that under the right circumstances, they could make more money by producing a Broadway flop than they could with a hit. But what will they do when their sure-to-offend musical becomes a surprise sensation?
The show also features Kristen Stevens as sexy Swedish bombshell, Ulla; Jeremy Sande as flamboyant director Roger De Bris; Nykolas Alford as Carmen, Mr. De Bris’ assistant; Clint Brown as Franz Leibkind, the Nazi author of the gloriously offensive “Springtime for Hitler,” Bennie Jean Fortenberry as Hold Me – Touch Me, one of Max’s investors; and Brad Hampton as Mr. Marks, Leo’s boss.
Jimmy Pigford is the director, with Carol Merrill as choreographer and Terry Pankhurst as music director. Orchestration will be by Carey Smith, with Rio Cross as production manager and sets by Scott Merrill. “The Producers” will be staged May 6-12 and is rated PG-13.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and military. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the theatre box office at (601) 482-6371, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., or visit the Web site at www.meridianlittletheatre.com.
