OXFORD – Jon Thomas Flint of Meridian is among 70 University of Mississippi College of Liberal Arts students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious undergraduate honors organization, at the University of Mississippi this spring.
Flint, a senior biochemistry major at UM, is also a Taylor Medalist. He is the son of Gary and Jane Flint.

Clay Bounds is the recipient of the Northwood Men’s Golf Association Scholarship at Meridian Community College. This $1,500 award is funded through the MCC Foundation by the local group.
Bounds is a 2007 graduate of Lamar High School. A Dean’s List scholar, he was recently inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students. Bounds, who is captain of the Eagle Golf Team, was named to the MCC Golf All Academic Team and was named Second Team All State by the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.
Bounds is in the University Transfer Program studying business. His next goal is to play golf at the Division I level and beyond that he aspires to become a professional golfer.

Juan Nicolas Zabrodiec of Paraguay, South America, is the George J. Blackwell Scholarship recipient at Meridian Community College. This $1,400 award is funded through the MCC Foundation. Blackwell is remembered as a conservationist and an avid sportsman. He hosted a popular outdoor segment for WTOK Television for several years.
Zabrodiec is completing the University Transfer Program with a 4.0 grade point average. He has played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the men’s tennis team that recently won the Region XXIII/MACJC State Championship. Zabrodiec was selected for the Mississippi USA All Academic First Team. A President’s List scholar, he is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students.
Zabrodiec is a member of the MCC Guitar Ensemble and is a tutor for the Spanish Department. His career goal is to become a civil engineer.

Alycia LeMerle is the recipient of the Marilyn Hampton Memorial Scholarship at Meridian Community College. This $1,500 award is funded through the MCC Foundation. Hampton is remembered as an avid tennis enthusiast.
LeMerle is sophomore in the University Transfer Program. A native of Victoria, Australia, she is pursuing a career in sports medicine. LeMerle has been an integral member of the MCC Lady Eagle Tennis Team for the last two years. The team just completed their regular season by capturing the 2008 MACJC State/NJCAA Region 23 championship. LeMerle was state champion in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She will play tennis for University of Tennessee Martin next year.

Randi Earwood has been selected to receive the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Scholarship at Meridian Community College. This $400 award is funded through the MCC Foundation by the local group.
Earwood is a 2001 honors graduate of Louisville High School. She is in her last semester of the Associate Degree Nursing Program. A President’s List scholar, Earwood is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses and Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students. Her plans are to continue her education through the master’s level.
