From Visit Clarke County websiteThe historic Swan-Mitts home was destroyed in a house fire Tuesday. The cause of the fire is unknown.

One of the Enterprise community’s historical attractions, the Swan-Mitts house, burned Tuesday night, destroying the house.

The Swan-Mitts house, constructed sometime between 1900 and 1906, was fully involved when firefighters arrived at the home sometime after 9:30 p.m.

“No one was at the home,” Eddie Ivy, the Clarke County emergency manager, said. “Because it was a very old home, once it was on fire it was incredibly hard to put out.”

Ivy said the home was a total loss and that some animals had perished in the fire.

No cause for the fire has been determined, Ivy said.
