SCOOBA — Meridian native David Williams has been hired as a recruiter for East Mississippi Community College.

Williams will meet with prospective students, visit area high schools and conduct tours of EMCC campuses. He will also coordinate events such as JourneyEAST, during which incoming freshmen are introduced to college life and culture, and First Fridays, where prospective students are given a chance to tour the college, talk to current students and learn more about EMCC scholarships, programs and student organizations.

“We are excited to have David on our team,” said Leia Hill, EMCC assistant vice president for Institutional Advancement. “While he has only been here a few days, David has hit the ground running and is working hard to spread the word about the excellent programs offered at East Mississippi Community College.”

Williams graduated from Mississippi State University with degrees in Finance and Risk Management. He worked for New York Life Insurance Company’s Administrative Management Department in Louisville, Ky., and later transferred to the company’s office in New Orleans.

Williams later moved to Birmingham, Ala., where he worked as area manager for Urban Cookhouse, a restaurant with several locations throughout the Southeast. Most recently, Williams worked for Regions Bank in Meridian.

Williams said he has always been interested in working in the education field and is looking forward to helping students pursue their educational goals.

“One of my favorite parts about the restaurant job was mentoring young, college-age employees and watching them grow and mature,” Williams said.
