History buffs, Civil War enthusiasts, veterans and people looking for an enjoyable day are invited to take part in The Road to Meridian, a three-day metal detecting adventure at Camp Meridale benefitting Soldiers Freedom Outdoors.

The event, which starts with a meet and greet from 5-9 p.m. Friday, May 2, will feature both local vendors and top-of-the-line metal detecting products, food trucks and more.

The metal detecting will begin bright and early Saturday, May 3, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and the hunt starting at 8 a.m. Participants will be able to detect across the 170-acre property and stop by an on-site food truck for lunch before heading back out to hunt some more until 5 p.m.

Sunday, May 4, will bring more metal detecting from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. after which giveaway and raffle winners will be announced. A food truck will be on-site Sunday for lunch as well.

Proceeds from The Road to Meridian will go to support Soldiers Freedom Outdoors and its programs supporting veterans. The nonprofit organization was created to “heal the hidden wounds of war,” and provides retreats and eco-therapy for veterans and active duty military free of charge as a way to help with post traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury or simply need a break.

Founded in Florida in 2011, Soldiers Freedom Outdoors purchased Camp Meridale — previously a camp for Girl Scouts —  in early 2024 as it looked to establish a permanent footprint in Mississippi.

The Road to Meridian is limited to 125 participants and those interested in attending are encouraged to grab their tickets early. Ticket information can be found at givebutter.com/theroadtomeridian.
