King Cake Drive-Thru, a new and convenient way of securing Greater New Orleans’ king cakes, is returning to Meridian for its second Mardi Gras season.
Chicago-born transplant to New Orleans Mike Graves, owner of bof bars, a novelty ice cream company, came up with this idea with his wife, a Mississippi native, in December 2023.
“Many of these bakeries are small, family-run operations and each cake sold represents not only support for small business, but also a link to past generations with this delicious tradition,” says Mike Graves.
The Meridian pop-up will be hosted at Belle G Boutique, 800 22nd Ave., with walk-up service only.
“We are so excited for King Cake Drive-Thru to come back again this year! We’ve had people asking for months if they will be coming to Meridian again!” said Belle G Owner Hallie Majure Dyess.
The pop-up aims to bring the magic and flavor of New Orleans Mardi Gras to the Queen City, offering a unique and convenient opportunity to purchase king cakes from renowned bakeries like Brennan’s, Sucré, Bittersweet Confections and more—all without leaving town.
“King Cake Drive-Thru always brings in the classic king cakes that everyone knows and loves but also some fun new flavors to try too. With Meridian Mardi Gras happening downtown on Feb. 22, this is the perfect time to snag a king cake to get in the Mardi Gras spirit!” said Meridian local and former New Orleanian
Mary Lauren Deweese.
The Meridian pop-up will operate for one day only, Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, from 11a.m. to 6 p.m. or until sold out.
The New Orleans location of King Cake Drive-Thru operates Friday through Sunday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., or until sold out, throughout the Mardi Gras season.
In collaboration, King Cake Drive-Thru has also teamed up with New Orleans company, Dirty Coast, in designing the first-ever king cake tote bag carrier debuting Jan. 6, sold in-stores, online at dirtycoast.com and at King Cake Drive-Thru. The tote is designed to fit up to three large king cakes for transport.
Plans for other King Cake Drive-Thru pop-up locations are in the works for later in the Mardi Gras season.
Residents can keep up with the weekly rotating menu and pop up schedule via King Cake Drive-Thru social media.
