Services poor in annexed area
Former Meridian mayor John Robert Smith thought the northeast area needed to be annexed into the city for the extra tax dollars so that’s what happened. We now pay higher taxes but get no benefits.

We had a great volunteer fire department. The sheriff’s department was quick to respond when called. I’m sure the city police and fire department would do so, also, but they are not as familiar with the county.
Lauderdale County would keep the ditches and fence row clean and cut on a regular basis. The other sanitation department would let the one who picked up leaves and such know when there was stuff to be picked up, and they did not scoop up the dirt and grass when they did pick up.
There are trees that have fallen in the road, and the younger men on Ham Road are the ones having to remove them.
My husband has been putting leaves in a pile for for over three weeks and they have not been picked up. The fence row is overtaking the ditch in places.
So, if we are required to pay higher taxes, why can’t we have some help keeping the roadside clean?
There is no hope getting this road repaved in my lifetime, but it would be nice if it could be repaved in front of my driveway so we do not have to drive through mud holes.

The sanitation guys do a decent job of picking up trash. If everyone would put their trash in bags and not throw loose trash in the cans it would not fall onto the street. Some of the guys will pick that up, but not all. I see litter all up the road.
