Clarke County child dies in car accident

Troopers continue investigating a two-car accident that killed a 9-year-old Clarke County girl on Easter Sunday.

Zyon Slater, 9, and her mother, Lotria Heard, 35, were driving west in their 2013 Chevy Malibu on Highway 18, approximately 2.5 miles west of Highway 145 when it collided with an eastbound 2003 Ford Sport Trac around 2:15 p.m., according to Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Andy West.

West said Heard, of Shubuta, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital. 

The driver of the Ford, Kevin Purvis, 36, of Mobile, Ala., also, was injured and taken to a local hospital, West said. 

Zyon sat in the front passenger seat, West said.
