SCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College and Millsaps College have joined forces to make it easier for EMCC students to transfer their credits to the Millsaps campus in Jackson.
The agreement outlines coursework that aligns with curriculum followed by students at Millsaps. EMCC students who wish to transfer to the four-year institution that offers 33 majors and 47 minor fields of study can plan their coursework accordingly.
The agreement was signed Thursday by EMCC President Dr. Thomas Huebner and Millsaps College President Dr. Robert W. Pearigen.
“Ensuring that our students can seamlessly transfer credits they earn here to universities and four-year institutions is a priority at EMCC,” Huebner said. “This agreement between EMCC and Millsaps College will offer our students another avenue to achieve their educational goals.”
Last year, EMCC signed articulation agreements with Mississippi State University-Meridian, Mississippi University for Women and Blue Mountain College that will make it easier for EMCC students to earn a bachelor’s degree at those institutions.
In addition to the agreement signed with EMCC, Millsaps College also signed identical agreements with the remaining 14 community and junior colleges in Mississippi.
“The execution of this agreement streamlines the path for students to transfer from community and junior college campuses across Mississippi, where they have been building an incredibly strong academic foundation, into the classrooms at Millsaps,” Pearigen said. “We are proud to partner with these institutions from around the state and support their students as they continue their education and find their path in the world.”
According to information provided by Millsaps College, the institution is offering the following to qualified transfer students:
• Students who have at least a 2.8 GPA and 30 transferrable credit hours are guaranteed admission and at least $10,000 in scholarship funds.
• Students with at least a 3.2 GPA and 30 transferrable credit hours are guaranteed admission and at least $15,000 in scholarship funds.
• Students who are part of Phi Theta Kappa honorary society with a GPA of 3.5 and 30 transferrable credit hours are eligible for at least $17,000 in scholarship funds.
“Strengthening our ties with outstanding institutions like Millsaps College, MUW, MSU-Meridian and Blue Mountain College is a win for EMCC and, more importantly, for our students,” Huebner said.
