Meridian Mini Maker Faire seeks participants

The Meridian Mini Maker Faire is seeking participants for its third annual event scheduled April 28-30 at Soule’ Steam Works in Meridian.

The Mississippi Industrial Heritage Museum and Maker Media are sponsoring the fair, which is expected to draw visitors from Mississippi and Alabama. Makers ranged from 3-D printing, to sewing to letterpress printing, according to a news release. More than 23 makers participated last year. with an enthusiastic crowd of visitors aged 8 to 90.

Tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students and entrepreneurs are all considered makers, according to the news release. Maker Faires give makers the opportunity to show their projects and to talk about what they have learned, according to the news release.

Some of the nationally organized groups that participate at Maker Faires around the world include 4-H, FIRST Robotics, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs,YMCA and YWCA.

Schools, especially those with educational programs in Engineering, Art, Science and Crafts from pre-K thru college, should consider signing up as makers at this event, organizers said.

Drone racing leagues, LEGO user groups, amateur aviation groups, amateur radio clubs, Audubon and bird watching groups are among those who have displayed their interests at a Maker Faire, organizers said.
