After an extended illness, Mrs. Elliott succumbed to the call of the Lord for eternal rest Sunday, July 29, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Annie Bell. During the early years of her life she met and married Mr. Leo Elliott Sr. God blessed their union with two children, Faye and the late Leo Elliott Jr.
As a result of her love for children, Mrs. Elliott became a teacher, an honorable profession to affect change in the lives of children. She impacted the lives of thousands of Meridianites, at home and abroad. Mrs. Elliott retired from the Meridian School District after many, many years of service. She served on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of East Mississippi where she continued her mission in impacting the lives of children.
Mrs. Elliott was avid member of the Historic First Union Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary and superintendent of the Sunday School, positions she held for many years until her death. Her love of the Lord and her church were evidenced by the service she rendered to the Church, Second New Hope District Association, East Mississippi Baptist State Convention and the National Baptist State Convention, USA, Inc. where she was a Certified Dean of Christian Education. Her continued desire to remain proficient in Christian Education led her to matriculate at Selma University Bible College. As a student, she was on the Dean’s List and would have earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Education in December 2012.
Cherishing her memories for many years to come include her daughter, Ollie Faye Elliott of Kansas City, Mo.; two adopted daughters: JoAnn and Rose, both of Meridian; one granddaughter, Beverly Tubbs; seven grandsons: Elliott Tubbs, Gerald Tubbs, Edgar Tubbs, Joel Tubbs, Jeffery Tubbs, Harvey Elliott, and Leo Elliot III; a nephew, Greg; three nieces: Marjorie, Natalie; one aunt, Mrs. Helen Lewis of Orlando, Fla.; a host of other relatives, friends and all of the members of the Historic First Union Missionary Baptist Church.
