Meridian police officers involved in a fatal shooting were cleared of wrongdoing Wednesday after the Mississippi Attorney General’s office completed its review of the May 2023 incident.
On May 16, 2023, Meridian Police Department responded to a call about a barricaded suspect at Meridian Living assisted living facility around 10:30 a.m. When they arrived, the suspect presented a weapon toward the officers.
No officers were injured, and an investigation into the incident was turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. MBI investigates most officer involved shootings in the state and reports its findings to the Attorney General’s office.
In a news release, the Attorney General’s office said its review followed MBI’s investigation and found the use of force by four Meridian officers involved in the shooting was justified.
