JACKSON (AP) — Attorneys for Krystal Marie Teston have told the Mississippi Supreme Court she was not on drugs during a 2004 traffic accident that killed three Mississippi College students and injured two others.
Teston was convicted of four counts of felony DUI in the case in 2007 in Harrison County. She was sentenced to 60 years in prison with 30 years suspended.
Defense attorney Tim Holleman told justices Monday an experienced DUI enforcement officer testified Teston did not appear impaired when he arrived at the scene. He says the officer testified it was an hour later when she appeared impaired.
Teston’s attorneys contended she took pain medication after the accident to calm her nerves.
Prosecutors argued Teston was already high on the drugs and that’s what caused the accident.
