A Meridian man is facing a murder charge in connection with a Friday afternoon shooting that left a man dead.
Marquez Green, 18, was arrested following the shooting, which happened at Valley View Apartments on 44th Avenue and Fifth Street, according to Meridian Police Department Detective Dareall Thompson.
“Because of a witness, and the quick response of a patrol officer, we were able to take him into custody,” Thompson said.
The male victim was pronounced dead at 5:58 p.m., according to Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler, who said Saturday afternoon the body had not been identified.
In addition to the murder charge, Green was charged with possession of a stolen firearm. He is being held at the Lauderdale County Detention Center, where bond was denied.
Cobler said it appeared the victim was shot twice in the head. More information will become available once an autopsy is performed, he said.
Thompson said the shooting was not gang-related.
