A former officer with Meridian Police Department was sentenced in the Southern District Court of Mississippi on Thursday after pleading guilty to conspiracy to defraud the government, State Auditor Shad White announced.
Tenesia Evans was sentenced to time previously served plus three years of probation.
Evans is one of four MPD officers originally indicted in 2019 of theft and embezzlement for falsifying time sheets. She, along with Capt. James Arrington, Sgt. Darrell Thompson and Erica Harmon were indicted after an investigation alleged they had altered their time sheets to receive pay for hours they were not at work.
Thompson was found not guilty following a three-week trial in July.
Evans was indicted on the conspiracy charge in January 2021 and pleaded guilty in October 2022. She previously pleaded guilty to falsifying her time sheets and to working as a School Resource Officer and Meridian police officer at the same time.
At the time of her arrest, Evans was served with a demand letter for $17,278.38, White’s office said in a news release. She will be liable for that amount in addition to the cost of the legal proceedings.
