A Lauderdale County man with 21 pending charges was arrested Tuesday morning and is being held without bond.

Kevin Lee Spears, 33, of 4308 Hopper Street, was arrested Tuesday morning on charges ranging from drug possession to possession of a firearm.

Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said the charges are from an arrest in April, and Spears didn’t show up for his arraignment. A bench warrant was then issued.

“We’ve been looking for him for a long time,” Calhoun said. “We got a tip that he was at his mother’s house, so we went and got him.”

His mother, Rita Ann Spears, 54, who owns the residence, was arrested and charged with harboring her son. She was released on a $2,500 bond the same day.

Calhoun said Spears has been arrested at least 20 times since 2003.

“He gets to sit [in jail] and they’re not going to let him out,” Calhoun said.
