Local home and garden enthusiasts spent Thursday checking out the latest in plant and gardening ideas as well as learning ways to improve the appearance of their homes at the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation’s third annual Home and Garden Show.

The highlight of this year’s event was an appearance from HGTV’s hosts of the hit show, “Listed Sisters.”

Twin sisters Alana Barnett and Lex LeBlanc from Nashville described ways to give one’s home new curb appeal with landscaping. They also explained how the simplest changes from painting the exterior or interior of a home to new light fixtures can increase the value and look of the residence.

“Get to know your hardware store employees,” LeBlanc said. “They are trained to help you with anything from choosing paint to finding the right light fixtures.”

Questions from the audience ranged from topics such as color schemes to landscaping. Barnett told attendees that a great source for home renovations projects is YouTube.

“There was a lady who just by watching videos on YouTube built her home from the ground up,” she said.

Approximately 30 venders manned booths and offered advice on everything from house paint to tips for the gardener.

There was even a booth for those with a sweet tooth.

Wallace Heggie with Fudge Etc., a local homemade fudge shop, handed out samples of fudge made in the shop, which has been in business since 1986.

“We just love getting businesses and other members to network and having them meet with different business owners,” said Debby Delshad, director of membership development with the EMBDC. “It has been a steady flow of people since the doors opened this morning and we thank everyone for coming and those participating. We are looking forward to the next one.”

Winning awards for best booth were first place: Al Davis, Al’s Garden and Gifts; second place: First State Bank and third place: Lauderdale County Farm Supply. Al’s Garden and Gifts also won the People’s Choice Award.
