Victim’s roommate accused in fatal Meridian shooting

- Bill Graham / The Meridian StarThe Meridian Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting death on 24th Avenue early Sunday morning.
Meridian police continue to investigate the shooting death of a city man early Sunday, a crime his roommate is accused of committing.
Adam Shirley, 47, was arrested at his home, 1107 24th Ave. Apt. A, shortly after 4:40 a.m., said Meridian Police Department Sgt. Dareall Thompson. The victim is a 48-year-old white man whose name will likely be released Monday.
“I want to make sure the next of kin is notified first,” Thompson said.
Violence between the men started in the early morning hours after they began arguing, Thompson said.
The victim’s body had two gunshot wounds to the chest and was sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Pearl for an autopsy, said Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler
Shirley is being held on a $800,000 bond in the Lauderdale County Jail and has a scheduled hearing at noon Monday in Meridian Municipal Court.
Investigators found a handgun at the apartment thought to be the weapon used in the shooting.
