Worship Site Profile: Word & Prayer Worship Center

Word & Prayer Worship Center held its first service in 2005 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center with 12 people.

“I had previously pastored at another ministry for four years, but had been feeling the inspiration to step out and obey the Lord,” Pastor Randolph Brown said.

Pastor Brown said he felt impressed to name the new ministry “Word & Prayer Worship Center” based on the scripture Acts 6:4, which is significant because we feel that the word must be proclaimed and there is a great need for prayer. Word and Prayer is not just our name, it is what we do, it is who we are.

The church started with nothing, no sound equipment, no chairs.

“I had a laptop computer that we used for everything,” Brown said. “I remember after we left the hotel conference center we needed some chairs and a ministry let us have some they had.”

Brown said the church, which was still quite small in number, stepped out on faith and purchased some nice cushioned chairs online.

“We met our goal within a couple of months and paid cash for the chairs just in time for our Founder’s Day Service,” Brown said. “It may have seemed small to someone else, but to us this was very significant and it was a shot in the arm to our faith.

“The Lord has continued to show himself strong to us on many other occasions.

The church mission – to complete our earthly assignment given by God which is to preach and teach the Word of God without compromise, and to live as an example before the Lord and the people.

“My wife and I feel called of God to lead his people, specifically in the area of teaching them the Word and training them in prayer,” Brown said. “We are part of the five-fold ministry that God is using to equip his people to do the work of the ministry.

Brown says one of their assignments is to train and raise up people – one ministry being Ministers in Training (MIT). This involves training five-fold ministers as well as laity.

“We thank the Lord for all that he has done, we know that there is much more to be done,” Brown remarked.
