Shooting call at Poplar Springs Elementary a prank
A call reporting a shooting Monday afternoon at Poplar Springs Elementary School was a prank, according to school officials.
Elizabeth McDonald, the Meridian Public School District public relations director, sent an email stating that the active shooter report was a prank call.
McDonald said that the campus police department and Meridian Police Department cleared the campus and students and staff followed protocol.
“I am very proud of how the Poplar Springs staff and students responded to this situation,” said LaVonda Germany, the Poplar Springs Elementary School principal, in the email. “Education and safety are always our first priorities.”
McDonald said that the school day continued as scheduled.
