Kassie Coleman appointed to state board
Gov. Phil Bryant has appointed Kassie Coleman to a three-year term on the Board on Law Enforcement Standards and Training as the statewide district attorney representative.
Coleman is the District Attorney for Mississippi’s Tenth Circuit Court District, which is comprised of Clarke, Kemper, Lauderdale and Wayne counties. Additionally, she has for 15 years served as an instructor at the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy and various other training sites for the purpose of educating officers regarding criminal statutes and procedures.
The primary function of the Board on Law Enforcement Standards and Training is to establish, maintain and revise, as necessary, minimum standards that must be met by candidates for positions in law enforcement throughout Mississippi and to ensure that the training they receive enables those candidates to adequately protect the safety of the citizens of the state, according to a news release.
The board also establishes and oversees the actual provision of training to both new and veteran law enforcement officers on a continuing basis and coordinates with the State Board of Education to guarantee that school security guards and police officers (sometimes called “school resource officers,”) meet at least minimum levels of training to empower them to properly care for our school-aged children.
