Two county road paving projects green-lighted
Work to repave all of Gum Log Road and a portion of Old 8th Street Road should begin in a couple of weeks.
Tuesday, the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors approved a $759,637 bid by APAC Mississippi Inc., to perform the work. APAC was the sole bidder on the project.
“Those roads are in terrible shape,” District 3 Supervisor Josh Todd said. “They are filled with potholes.”
The roads will be pre-leveled and resurfaced with a new overlay. Work on Old 8th Street Road will begin at Highway 19 North and go up to at least Whippoorwill Road.
Work should be completed in 45 to 90 days. Todd said the repaving should only take about three days to complete for each road but APAC Mississippi will have to schedule the work around other projects.
State road funds will pay for the the work.
“This is not money that has to come out of the budget; it’s coming from the state,” District 5 Supervisor Kyle Rutledge said. “I’m glad they were able to help us.”
Both roads have been on the county’s priority list for a while.
“We’ve had a hard time getting it this far because it’s in such bad shape they can’t do just a basic repair,” Todd said.
