CHICKASHA, Okla. — Two Oklahoma police officers were shot while serving a search warrant Sunday afternoon.
Alex Warren Klinger, 61, was taken into custody following the incident Sunday.
“The police went to serve a warrant and quickly gunfire erupted,” said Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Public Information Officer Jessica Brown. “We still have a lot of questions about what happened.”
One of the officers was treated and released. The other was taken via mediflight to OU Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
Police say Klinger exchanged shots with the two officers — injuring them —then barricaded himself in his home for several hours before surrendering, according to OSBI.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Paul Timmons announced the suspect surrendered peacefully ending the standoff via his Twitter account around 5:30 p.m.
Grady County, Oklahoma Sheriff Jim Weir said the subject was wounded and is being transported to a hospital.
“The city is safe, he is in custody and he is still alive,” Weir said.
Former CPD Chief Stewart Steele released the following statement on his Facebook in reference to the incident.
“I am asking everyone to pray for the Chickasha Police Department, the two police officers who were shot today and their families. Please also pray for a peaceful surrender of the suspect and for all officers still on scene. And to our Chickasha Family and Friends, You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We love you.”
