Collinsville Community Development Club reviews Guatemala trip

A slideshow presentation and recap of a recent mission trip to Guatemala by club members Jill and Joe Williams highlighted the April meeting of the Collinsville Community Development Club.

The Collinsville residents were part of a 32-member group from Collinsville First Baptist Church who traveled to Guatemala to build two homes for families living in a desolate area of the Central America country located south of Mexico. The group also conducted Bible school for the area’s children, according to the Williams.

The mission trip also included a visit to the old capital of Antiqua, the mountains of Guatemala and a volcano and it’s lava field. A slideshow presentation provided club members a visual perspective of the trip.

The April 19, 2019, meeting opened with a devotional presentation by West Lauderdale High School ninth-grader Nicholas Walton, who spoke about the importance of knowing what the Word of God says in order to stand for what is right. Noting that oil and water do not mix, Walton said the world and God’s Word also do not mix.

“It’s important to know what God says about issues that are going on in the world today, and know that what God says is true and everlasting,” Walton said.

The meeting adjourned with refreshments and Collinsville Day preparations.
