Jax Moore band headlines First Saturday at The MAX

Meridian and Lauderdale County residents enjoyed live music and entertainment Saturday as the Jax Moore band performed at The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience.

The country music band is made up of local talents Jax Moore, Tripp Rush, Caleb Heflin and Calvin Malone and has performed at a variety of different venues including the annual Jimmie Rodgers Festival and several local lounges and bars. It has also played at locations in Ridgeland and Starkville.

The concert was held in The MAX courtyard as part of the museum’s July First Saturday activities along with free admission for all.

In a news release announcing the performance, Penny Kemp, President and CEO of The MAX, said highlighting local musicians is a key part of the museum’s mission, and the use of the courtyard for concerts, the Governor’s Recording Studio and The MAX’s coordination to host portions of the Jimmie Rodgers Festival all help fulfill that goal.

A songwriter workshop is also set to be held at The MAX later this month to help up-and-coming musicians strengthen their song-writing skills. Singer-songwriter Tricia Walker will teach the workshop titled, “What’s In a Song: A Look Inside the Songwriter’s Toolbox,” from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 27.

There is no cost to participate in the workshop, but those planning to attend are asked to register at msarts.org/events/msa-pine-regions-songwriter-festival.

Later that evening, Walker will be joined by fellow singer-songwriters Eden Brent, Alana Mosley and Emily White in performing from 6:30-9 p.m. to end the day.
