Leake Academy sweeps Lamar
The Lamar Lady Raiders handed defending Class AAA champion Leake Academy its only loss of the season last week with a 31-24 win.
Leake avenged that loss on Friday night as the homestanding Lady Rebels took a 56-41 win over the Lady Raiders.
Leake improved to 11-1 on the season and will host North Delta today at 3 p.m. in Madden. Lamar falls to 5-3 overall and has lost two straight after a 66-62 loss to Puckett.
The game was back and forth in the first half as Leake led 14-11 at the end of the first. Lamar outscored the Lady Rebels 12-8 in the second and led 23-22 at the half.
But the Lady Rebels took an early lead in the second half and gradually pulled away from the Lady Raiders. Leake outscored Lamar 14-11 in the third and pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the Lady Raiders 20-7 to take the win.
Molly Davis, a Philadelphia native who signed with Copiah-Lincoln in softball, led all scorers with 26 points for Leake. Ashley Smith had 10 and Hannah Smith had eight points.
Ambreah Waters had 14 points to lead Lamar while Dabrash Powe had 11 points and Katie Shaffer added nine points.
LEAKE ACADEMY 64, LAMAR BOYS 45
The Rebels broke open a close game in the second half and pulled away to take a 19-point win on the boys game.
Leake led 17-16 at the end of the first but Lamar took a 27-26 lead at the half. The Rebels started to pull away in the second half, outscoring Lamar 17-7 in the third and 21-11 in the fourth for the final margin.
Demarcus Powe led Lamar with 20 points while William Lamar had 12 points and Marshall Ward added seven points. Clayton Malone led Leake with 16 points while Matt Clair and Daniel Young each had 14 points.
