Todd Kemp

Residence: Lifelong resident of Clarke County.

Office sought: Sheriff.

Work experience: 32 years experience with the Clarke County Sheriff’s office. I served as deputy, chief deputy and sheriff.

Public offices held: 19.5 years as Clarke County sheriff.

Why are you running: I am running because I want to continue to serve the people of this county and provide them with professional law enforcement and keep our community safe. I have children and grandchildren that live in this county and I want to keep providing them with a safe place to live as well as everyone else. I have a zero tolerance policy for drugs and violence, we will not be intimidated by drug dealers or any other violent offenders. The climate for law enforcement may changed on a national level, however, we will still fight for the good people of Clarke County.

Why are you a good candidate: My law enforcement background started at the University of Southern Mississippi law enforcement training academy, I have followed up with training at regional counter drug training academy as well as the Mississippi law enforcement officers training academy. I also attended the Tennessee law enforcement executive seminar sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Member of ROCIC. I have been an active member of the Mississippi Sheriffs’ Association and served on the executive board and was elected president of the Mississippi Sheriffs’ Association by my peers for 2017-2018 term. I have the experience the knowledge and the know how to continue being your sheriff.

Karey Williams

Residence: Enterprise

Party: Republican

Office sought: Sheriff of Clarke County

Education: I have a G.E.D. and have attended college courses at Meridian Community College

Work experience: I started my Law Enforcement career with Meridian Police Department in April of 2000. I attended the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy (MLEOTA) that same year. In October of 2000 shortly after graduating the police academy, I accepted a position at Stonewall Police Department as a part time Police Officer; and still serve in that position today. In October of 2002 I went to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office. I have served there as a Patrol Deputy, D.U.I. Deputy, Shift Sergeant, Investigator and now as the Lieutenant of Investigations. I am also one of the founding members of the Lauderdale County SWAT team; were I now serve as the less lethal munitions Instructor, Physical fitness Instructor and Entry Team Leader. I am the Lead Driving Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor (officer safety and hand to hand combat) and a Standardized Field Sobriety Instructor for the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department. In 2015 I attended the Certified Investigator Program at MLEOTA and am now a certified Investigator.

Why are you running: I have lived in Clarke County my entire life. I have raised a family here and my only desire is to try and make this county a place where my daughters can safely raise my grandchildren. If elected I want to modernize the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office. Put in to place a standardized hiring process that would help to find the best candidates for Deputy Sheriff’s. In my opinion it is key to find good men and women from the community to fill those positions. The employees are the foundation on which the Department is built. 

Why are you a good candidate: I believe that any person running for any public office should do so only if they believe that they can change things for the better. I am running because I believe that God called me to do so and that with my work ethic and experience I can change Clarke County for the better.

CLARKE COUNTY CONSTABLE PLACE 1

Name: Beverly Trotter.

Residence: Shubuta.

Party: Democratic.

Office sought: Constable Place 1.

Education: Quitman High School, Jackson State.

Work experience: Employed by Quitman School District for five years; 19 years at FC Meyer Packaging; 3 1/2 years as constable.

Why are you running: To continue providing service within the county, to keep and preserve the peace, and to faithfully aid and assist in executing the criminal laws of the state.

Why are you a good candidate: I continue to train and keep up with new laws, firearm use and safety training. I work hand-in-hand with Justice Court to carry out tasks given to me by the court system. I will continue to obey all lawful orders and execute all judgments for the Justice Court. I will keep God first.
