Lauderdale County agencies win $300,000 in development grants

Two Lauderdale County agencies won a combined $300,000 in grants from the Mississippi Development Authority, according to an MDA news release Wednesday.

The East Mississippi Business Development Corporation received $250,000 for site clearing and earthwork at the 310-acre, rough-graded site that will be the I-20/59 Industrial Park off of Sweet Gum Bottom Road.

The reward comes after getting a $3.5 million state bond in March to reimburse Lauderdale County for money spent on the project.

Stakeholders must finish developing the site before a permit expires in November, according to comments at public meetings, and will potentially become an attraction for new business in the area.

The Meridian Airport Authority also received $50,000 from MDA for grading and leveling a levy at the 130-acre Key Brothers Aviation Site and mitigate low-lying areas with the fill.
