Jubilee looks to celebrate life, reduce suicide

Meridian and Lauderdale County residents are invited to join in a day of fun and entertainment for a good cause as the Stronger Together Foundation, Ochsner Rush Health and community partners host the inaugural Lean on Me Jubilee on Sept. 28 at the Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience.

This event is billed as an old-fashioned county fair atmosphere with something for the entire family. The Jubilee will offer a variety of family-friendly games, craft vendors and a delicious assortment of food vendors.

In coordination with The SPOT (Special Place for Others to Thrive), organizers are dedicating the first hour of the event as sensory friendly to allow children and adults with sensory processing disorder, autism spectrum disorder and other special needs to experience this event with smaller crowds, closer parking and decreased noise. In addition to the activities, The SPOT will provide sensory activities, sensory prizes and adaptive games for participants.

The Lean On Me Jubilee recognizes the importance of mental health and seeks to honor those affected by mental illness and suicide. The community fun day is being organized as a way to spread awareness and acceptance for all people needing extra support no matter their circumstance, background or ability.

Entry is free as are many of the attractions. Vendors will be on hand offering a variety of merchandise, food and special activities as well. Some activities include rock wall climbing, axe throwing, a dunking booth, a petting zoo, bounce houses, face painting and more.

Also set for the Jubilee is an impressive lineup of local musical talent including Jax Moore, Emily White, Grayson Culpepper, Callaway Keller and Kaleigh Clark.

Proceeds from the Lean On Me Jubilee will go to the Stronger Together Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by local veteran Mike Couch with the goal of raising awareness about military veteran suicides and providing resources to those impacted by the deaths. The foundation will use the funds to award grants to three local organizations that serve and support the community.
