UPDATED: MPD seeks suspect in fatal June shooting

UPDATE: Richard Jones has turned himself in, according to Meridian Police Department.

The Meridian Police Department is seeking a suspect believed to be involved in a June shooting that killed one man and injured three others.

In a news release, Acting Capt. Dareall Thompson said investigators are looking for Richard Jones, who is wanted on a charge of murder for the death of Jaterius Easley, 24, on June 21 and three counts of aggravated assault.

According to the release, officers responded to the 500 block of 53rd Avenue where they found Easley. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. An additional three gunshot victims were transported to the hospital in a private vehicle.

The shooting remains an active investigation by officers with MPD’s Gang Unit, Special Operations Unit and investigators. Anyone with information about Jones or his whereabouts is asked to call Meridian Police Department or East Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 855-485-8477.
