Lamar beats Laurence Manning Aca. 30-14 in season opener

Lamar School got off to the right start in its quest for a three-peat this fall as the Raiders topped Laurence Manning Academy out of South Carolina 30-14 in the SECIS Kickoff Classic Friday in Montgomery, Alabama.

The two-time defending state champions in MAIS Class AAAA, Division II scored four touchdowns and also had a safety after sacking the Laurence Manning quarterback in the end zone.

Quarterback Joseph Hutchinson was 19 of 28 in passing with 242 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Jacob Partridge led in receiving, hauling in nine catches for 108 yards and a score for Lamar.

Jake Ransier tallied three catches for 49 yards, and William Lamar caught two passes for 45 yards, one of which was a touchdown. 

Daulton Nelson had two rushing touchdowns for the Raiders on runs of 1 and 22 yards.

Lamar (1-0) will host Starkville Academy next Friday for its home opener.
