Enterprise extends win streak over Clarkdale to 12

ENTERPRISE — With just one football to share among themselves, Enterprise running backs Kaleb Fisher, Zach Kyle and Christian Milsap found ways to make each carry count.

The trio ran for a combined 341 rushing yards and five touchdowns to carry Enterprise to a 46-24 victory against Clarkdale Friday night. The win was Enterprise’s 12th consecutive over Clarkdale.

“It’s a product of our system — what we do offensively,” Enterprise coach Kelly Jimmerson said of his team’s rushing attack. “We spread the ball around, and our guys take great ownership in blocking for each other. Our offensive line does a great job, and there’s no credit given to my big uglies up front. I want to take a moment to say they do a great job for us, and they take a beating all week long, and they don’t get any credit. But I want to make sure that they get credit tonight for establishing a great ground game.”

Fisher rushed for a game-high 156 yards and a touchdown, Kyle added 134 yards and two touchdowns and Milsap pitched in with 51 yards and two touchdowns in the win, which was Enterprise’s (2-5) second in as many weeks.

Clarkdale’s Germarcus Brown ripped off a 29-yard run in the first quarter to give Clarkdale (2-5) an 8-0 lead after the two-point conversion, but Clarkdale wouldn’t see the end zone again until late in the fourth quarter. Brown finished with a Clarkdale team-high 104 rushing yards.

Kyle scored first for Enterprise on a 67-yard, first-quarter run that saw him breeze past Clarkdale’s second level on his way to the end zone to make the score 8-6 in Clarkdale’s favor after the failed two-point conversion.

Milsap followed with a 36 yarder, and a successful two-point conversion put Enterprise ahead 14-8 with 7:06 left in the first quarter.

Kyle scored again on a 15-yard run late in the first quarter, and quarterback Ridge Kidd threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to River Kidd just nine seconds into the second quarter.

Fisher rumbled 73 yards to the end zone with 6:16 left in the second quarter to give Enterprise a 38-8 halftime lead.

Milsap tallied his second score of the night via a 1-yard run with 7:09 left in the third quarter, and he added the two-point conversion to extend Enterprise’s lead to 46-8.

Clarkdale’s Cody Bonner scored on a 2-yard run, and Landon Conklin added a 47-yard scoring run with 32 seconds left in the game.

“We just didn’t match their intensity,” Clarkdale coach Wes Roy said. “They came out ready to play, and we didn’t, and that’s 100 percent on me. It’s my job to get them ready, and somewhere along the line this week I failed them — because I thought we were ready to play, and we weren’t.”

Enterprise’s defense held running back Hunter Vick, Clarkdale’s leading rusher on the season, to just 25 yards on eight carries. Vick entered Friday having rushed for 100 yards in his last three games.

Jimmerson credited the maturation of his defense.

“We were bad on defense to start the year, and we had a lot of young players — we started four freshmen tonight on defense, and the young guys are growing up,” Jimmerson said. “Our seniors are stepping up (and) trying to lead them in the right direction. And we’re playing as one out there, and we’re playing a lot harder on defense, and hopefully, that will continue the rest of this season.”

Enterprise honored former standout Derrick Moore in a ceremony hosted at midfield prior to kickoff. Moore was killed in an Aug. 7 car crash that also claimed the lives of Carter Little and Bonnie Lee Roberson. Members of the Moore family were presented with an encased signed football from Moore’s former teammates, and black-and-white balloons were released in his memory. Moore’s former number, No. 12, was painted at the 50-yard line.

“We wanted to come out and do the best we could for a tremendous competitor and a kid we miss very much,” Jimmerson said. “Our team took it upon themselves to come out and play a very good ball game…I’m very proud we could get this win on a night that was very special.”
