MCC sweeps EMCC in doubleheader

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles swept visiting East Mississippi Community College in midweek MACJC softball action Wednesday.

MCC grabbed a 5-4 win in Game 1 before capping the doubleheader with a walk-off home run in the eighth inning of Game 2 that secured a 10-7 win to sweep the series.

In Wednesday’s opener, the Lady Eagles held a 4-0 advantage to enter the fifth inning before EMCC (5-19) piled on three runs in the top of the frame to whittle its deficit to one run.

MCC (19-13) tacked on one run in the bottom of the fifth to preserve the Game 1 victory.

MCC’s Keirra Fair was 3-for-3 with three runs. Teammate Megan Lightcap was 2-for-4 with a team-high four RBIs, powered by a three-run home run in the third inning.

Lady Eagles pitcher Kaitlyn Parrish went seven innings in the circle to nab the win. Parrish yielded nine hits and four earned runs, and she tallied one strikeout.

EMCC’s Madelyn Wilkes and Megan Cummins finished with two hits apiece. Hope Thames plated two batters on one hit. 

In the nightcap, Miracle Crosby blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a stalemate and send the Lady Eagles to a 10-7 victory in extra innings. 

Crosby’s three RBIs paced the Lady Eagles, while teammates Aahliya Jones and Jackie Lahaie each added two RBIs.

Union product and EMCC catcher Mackenzie Dolan hit a three-run home run in the top of the third that pushed the Lady Lions ahead 4-0. Dolan finished 1-for-4 with a team-leading three RBIs and one run. 

Lady Eagles’ pitcher Hayleigh Rogers threw seven innings of four-hit ball to get the win. She fanned four batters and surrendered just one earned run.
