Halloween events abound in Meridian
Meridian and Lauderdale County residents have plenty of opportunities to find frights and collect candy this year as multiple Halloween events are planned throughout the area.
The annual Bailey Haunted Firehouse is once again providing a scary good time from 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The haunted house started Oct. 4 and continues through Nov. 2. Tickets are $15 for admission or $25 for a fastpass.
Festivities kick off on Oct. 19 with Mississippi Children’s Boo!seum – Meridian. Local kids are invited to don their costumes and join in the fun as the children’s museum hosts a day of Halloween fun from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Events include a Halloween scavenger hunt, candy corn bowling, crafts, glow-in-the-dark dancing and more.
After the kids have had their fun, the adults will have their turn on Oct. 25 with Meridian Main Street’s Ail Trail: Spooky Night Edition set for 5-7 p.m. The trail starts at Harvest Grill where participants will pick up their Ale Trail cards before winding through downtown Meridian making stops at participating businesses for special treats.
The city of Meridian’s annual Candy Crawl will come next, running from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. An annual event, Candy Crawl draws hundreds of costume-clad children to trick-or-treat at downtown businesses and organizations set up on the city hall lawn.
After Candy Crawl, families can hop in the car and head out to Toomsuba where the Lake Tom Bailey Trunk or Treat event will kick off Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
Russell Fire and Rescue will also host a Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 26, with the event set to run from 4-8 p.m.
Those looking to be scared can also head over to The Carter Foundation from 4-6 p.m. on Oct. 26 for Fright Night on 8th Street. The annual event will feature candy stations, games, a haunted house, entertainment and more.
Meridian Community College will keep the candy flowing as it hosts its annual Candy Cruise event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 29. At the same time, Northeast Lauderdale High School will host its Fall Family Fun Night from 5-8 p.m. featuring a haunted house, trunk or treat, food, games and more.
Meridian Police Department will also join in the festivities on Oct. 29 with its annual Trunk or Treat event. The yearly event provides a safe, fun way for children and families to trick-or-treat, with candy coming straight from Meridian police officers. Trunk or Treat starts at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 7:40 p.m.
Just in case there is more room left in the plastic pumpkins, Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop H will end this year’s trick-or-treat activities with its annual Trunk or Treat from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31. Marion Volunteer Fire Department will also be passing out candy to trick-or-treaters on Halloween night.
