FOOTBALL ROUNDUP (Thursday, Oct. 28/Friday, Oct. 29, 2021): Meridian falls to Terry, West beats Northeast, Enterprise completes perfect regular season with win

Howard Atterberry rushed 25 times for 128 yards and a touchdown, but Meridian dropped a 29-28 contest to Terry in Friday night prep football action.

Quarterback Mark Smith went 12 of 22 for 178 yards and a touchdown passing, and Jonathan Vaughn rushed six times for 29 yards and two touchdowns, while Fernando Atterberry had three carries for 25 yards.

Vaughn finished with six catches for 97 yards and a touchdown, and Tyler Grace finished with two catches for 44 yards.

Meridian (5-5, 2-4) is scheduled to host Warren Central Thursday to conclude the regular season.

WEST LAUDERDALE 42, NORTHEAST LAUDERDALE 20 

JJ Grant and Caleb Collins both had another strong game for West Lauderdale as the Knights defeated Northeast Lauderdale 42-20 Thursday to wrap up the regular season.

Grant rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, while Caleb Collins added 128 yards and a touchdown on 11 rushes. Hunter Moore had a 6-yard touchdown carry for the Knights.

Knights quarterback Jackson Parker finished 5 of 12 for 77 yards and two touchdowns passing, while Wyatt Castle had a 7-yard touchdown catch and Gunter Knapp had an 18-yard touchdown reception. Cooper Luke finished with three catches for 52 yards. 

Defensively, Dylan Brown had nine solo tackles, six assists and one tackle for loss for the Knights, while Jordan Gowdy had six solo tackles, five assists and one tackle for loss. Hunter Fuller had four solo tackles, two assists and one sack, while Dillon Williamson finished with five solo tackles and three assists. Commondre Cole, Dalton Bishop and Max Dickinson each had a tackle for loss, and Eli Bates had two tackles for loss.

For Northeast Lauderdale, Jase Jimison was 7 of 17 for 134 yards and a touchdown passing, while Travis Green had a 25-yard pass. JaMichael Jackson rushed 19 times for 118 yards and two touchdown, and he also had a 62-yard touchdown reception. 

Northeast Lauderdale finished its season 1-9. West Lauderdale (9-1) will host Mooreville this week for the first round of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs.

ENTERPRISE 42, FOREST 7

Six different Enterprise players scored a touchdown as the Bulldogs completed a perfect regular season with a 42-7 win at Forest in Thursday night prep football action.

The win gave Enterprise (10-0, 5-0) the No. 1 seed out of Region 5-3A.

Gavyn Dear scored first for the Bulldogs in the first quarter, and Derryon Gray scored Enterprise’s first touchdown in the second quarter on a 3-yard carry. Three more players scored in the second: Blake Wilkins on a 52-yard pass from Gray, Zee Sims on a 17-yard carry and Parks Burt on a 1-yard run.

Tanner Sanders’ scored the Bulldogs’ final touchdown on a 75-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Gray was 3 of 7 for 102 yards passing and also rushed five times for 36 yards. Sanders had 89 yards on two carries, and Dear finished with 73 yards on nine carries, while Burt tallied 70 yards on five rushes. Trace Roy rushed four times for 57 yards, and Sims had 30 yards on five carries along with a 42-yard catch.

Defensively, Harris Burt and Jayce Gunn finished with three tackles, and Gray and Dylan Gibbs both had two tackles. Gibbs also had a tackle for a loss, as did Parks Burt, Isaiah Baum and Braxton Donald.
